Organic Church Conference 1

January 26th, 2007

I’m listening to Neil Cole from Church Multiplication Association as I thumb this post on my Motorola Q. I’m sitting with a few guys from Newsong Church, with whom I carpooled up to Long Beach, but that’s not why I’m here.

Why am I here? I’m not here at all to find the “How To’s”. I’m done with trying to figure out how to “do” church. I’m just here to be a part.

I can’t believe it. Neil Cole just bashed getting an M Div. I loved Seminary. Why do people bash them so much? Oh well.

Reggie McNeal - Missional Leadership
Persecution for North American Pastors comes from wihin the church not from those pagans outside.

People are looking for life, not church. Church is a connector to get people to where they’re on the way to. Taking role in church is like an airport that seeks to keep everyone in the airport.

Kingdom focus. God’s in the people business.

Two Gifts of The Kingdom

1. Humility
Even those of us that have taken the pill, it’s lodged in our throats. (Talking about The Matrix and being enlightened to a new way to be church).

- It’s not a peeing contest, marking our territory
- We are clueless. We’re just servants
- Have to listen and be obedient
- The measure of your life will not be counted in this side of life
- If you have enough humility you just say, “Yes.” It’s wonderful to lay down all the worry.
- People can’t identify with our successess or church worries. The great unifier is pain, brokeness.
- People will be able to connect with your limp.

2. Confidence
- Think of the confidence God has in you that he throws you into a vortex.
- When John the Baptist doubts if Jesus is the one, Jesus has the confidence in John to know the truth by what he sees - that the Kingdom is busting out.

We’re all doomed, so we might as well die doing what we love. Is the Kngdom in you?
