Organic Church Conference Debrief
January 28th, 2007I’m ditching the last day of the conference, because I was slightly bored and RenCom’s having our first gathering this afternoon. Now I’m sitting at Newsong zoning out during the sermon. I think I do have some ADD issues, because the message is actually pretty good, hehe.
Here’re some thoughts from the conference. The dialogue that I experienced may have been the best part of the conference. The demographics of the conference was much more conservative and bitterly reactionary than I expected. It seems like starting a house church is just as difficult/painful as starting a church plant.
Coming out of this conference has strengthened my thought that I’m not going to start a house church, but I am going to ivite friends to join me in some intentional hanging out.

I relate about having adhd when it comes to sitting in a service, I think that is one of the main reasons we do house church! I am interested in how you go with you new ‘church’ endeveor. Here in New Zealand we have done something similar. We had 5 house churches that got together to celebrate once a month. But we chucked in the celebration after three months because it felt so churchy and people felt they were loseing the freedom they were experianceing at house church. Also the new people who had joinned each house church did not bother coming to the celebrations so it actually hindered the focus and growth outwards. The celebration just became a bit of a good time for old timers.

Hi Philip. How’d you find my site? It’s great that you did. I have the same concerns about our once a month gatherings as well. I can’t see that any new people that I bring into my house church is going to feel any desire or benefit in going to the once a month large group meetings. I guess we’ll find out in the next several months. I think it’s important to bring this point up to the leaders of ohurch before it becomes an issue. I’ll talk to them about it. Thanks!!
