Firefox for Work

May 29th, 2007

I’m setting up an intranet using google apps for my company. The problem is that the start page looks dramatically different in internet explorer versus firefox. In fact google apps looks downright ungainly in IE. It’s nasty. I hate that bit of software. I’m considering switching everyone over to Firefox. My concerns are that people will grumble, because they’ve personalized their IE. I’d say 95% of the people use IE and are non-techie types. What should I do? Should I make everyone change to firefox. Force people into the light?

It’s a security issue as well. I think once they switch, they should like it better. Plus if they are non-techie’s, the most personalization of their IE MIGHT be bookmarks which are easily imported over.

what’s the security issue? Is IE less secure?

you can pose the issue as a security concern since IE is full of holes and can jeopardize the company and bad things will happen, the world will collapse, and small mammals will die as a result. so, for world peace, use Firefox.

I think the challenge is more in the roll-out and how we can improve MIS to support those transition. But yeah, I’m with Alex, it’s all about “world peace” or would that be “world domination.
