Toby’s Surprise Ride
June 11th, 2007Toby on bike video
We were at Micah’s baseball picnic to celebrate the ending of his season with the Dodgers. Toby was bored and restless, as usual, and he was messing around with Micah’s bike. Cindy and Toby rode Razors, and Micah rode his bike to the picnic. I asked Toby if he wanted me to push him around on Micah’s bike, and off we went. Right away I could tell that Toby was balancing and pedaling strong, so I let go to see what would happen. I caught myself saying, “How the fu.., um, heck did you do that?” Whew, I almost got myself in trouble with that, but I was in utter disbelief. This is his FIRST TIME on a bike without training wheels! Go Toby!

He even went off-roading! The best part is his giant smile at the end of the video.

yeah, I loved how excited he was that he could ride. I’m not making the same mistake I made with Micah when i tried to force him to learn. I’m going to let Toby tell me when he’s ready, even though I can see that he can already do it.

That’s pretty impressive for his first time. I wouldn’t be surprised if he got snowboarding down for the first time too.

Not sure if my last comment went through. I saw your profile and I just thought how interesting that we have sort of parallel lives. I’m a project manager, I commute by bike, I have two sons, 5 and 7, I am a deacon in my church, one of my sons just started riding without training wheels last week…
Anyway, great site!

all i can say is that the younger child are always more talented. It was proven in a clinical study that specifically the 2nd sons have excellent coordination and social skills. Dont quote me on that though…

Brian: I completely agree! 2nd sons all the way
Eric: thanks for dropping by my site. I’ll check out your blog. :)
