Saturday Recap

July 14th, 2007

Today was fun, so I thought that I’d give a recap. The morning was spent at Micah’s swim meet. This is his third meet, and his first time swimming butterfly. Picture above is Micah with his coach as he’s getting ready to dive during his relay. It’s fun to watch him learning and enjoying himself. I’ve tried really hard not to tell him how to swim, and to let him learn on his own, unless it’s something really big, so it’s neat that he asks me to teach him stuff.

After the meet we were talking about this idea to build a fort in our backyard. We decided to buy a cheap tent and use that as a fort. So Toby and I went to Sears and bought a tent for $30, and I spent another $50 on tools. Heck, it’s Sears. You have to buy tools if you’re going there! One thing I bought was a 1 1/2″ drill bit to core a big hole in our computer table for cables. It’s good to see that my boys share my fascination with power tools!

The kids wanted to sleep in the tent at night. We didn’t think they’d actually follow through, but I set up the air mattress and their sleeping bags anyways. I remember being a kid, and it was so exciting to do stuff like this. As of this post, they’re sleeping soundly out there.

They have it pretty nice, we never had no cushy air mattresses.

Wow, cool video of Micah swimming. Like father like son. You know, he swims a lot faster than me. Too bad I never learned from you when we were going to school! :)

wow… i’m impressed. micah is really good. did he take lessons first to learn to swim or did you just teach him? lucas is taking lessons now and he likes it. hopefully he’ll be able to swim by himself by the end of summer.

Micah took a few lessons last Summer. He seemed to just take to the water and was able to swim fairly well on his own. Cindy and I would take the kids to the pool and try to get them used to water. I think the biggest challenge for little kids is being able to keep their heads under water. Toby’s just starting to get used to it.
