Bye Fixed..hello Road Bike

I’ve been seriously looking into roadbikes since this weekend, and with the help of my friend, Charles, I was able to narrow down what would work best for me. We found a Felt F75 on Craigslist right after I told Charles that I was interested in the lower level F85. I went to go check it out this evening, and loved it. It’s a 2006 model bike, but it really is like new. The original owner thought it’d be fun to get into road riding, but it didn’t catch. He bought the bike and the accessories to go with it, which he generously threw in. He gave me speedplay pedals, which are great for people with knee problems. They’re expensive, which is why I never dropped the cash on them, but I’ve always wanted a pair. He even threw in his high end shoes (nicer than any bike shoe I’ve ever owned), which fit me perfectly, and his nice helmet (perfect for Cindy), and a saddle bag full of tools. The price he listed was pretty good, not great, but with all the stuff he threw in, it made it a killer deal. AND I was able to offset the cost since I sold my Steamroller yesterday.

Hopefully, the rain doesn’t fall tomorrow, so that I can ride to work on my new rig! Of course I feel a little ashamed, being a full on mountain biker. We spend our spare time making fun of roadies, and here I am with a road bike. But I’ll resist the urge to dress up like Lance, and I doubt I’ll ever join a club ride. It’s for riding to work, and possibly a triathlon down the line. I’ll ride with my mountain shorts or regular shorts and the usual cheap wicking t-shirts that I love. :)

It is a Darth Vader worthy looking bike, you must admit! My kids have been getting a kick out of watching me buy and sell bikes over the past few months. Just don’t ask Cindy what she thinks about all of it. j/k

What’s gross is that I was looking for reviews on this bike last night, and a couple guys on a bike forum were commenting that it’d be hard to color match their outfits with black and yellow. WTF? Weirdo roadies. Hehe

The all-black look is certainly better than some psychadelic pansy coloring. I guess those fru-fru colors would be easier for roadies to match to their outfits ;).

hey there. Am considering the F75, but being relatively new to roading, am concerned its more a tri bike that a cruising/long ride bike - any opinion? Is the seat kind of in aero/triathlon position?

hi Rob, the seat in the picture looks tilted back because of the yellow stripe and the dark background. It’s actually close to level. I think the bike is a good trade off between speed and comfort, but it’s not a touring bike. I ride it mostly for commuting to work, so I don’t know much about road riding either. Part of me wishes that I got a touring bike, but at the same time I like the extra speed and the component mix.
